I'd say it's a safe buy.Since the game’s original release on GameCube, Capcom has ported Resident Evil 4 to virtually every platform possible. Original Gamecube version being the best, Wii coming as second, and then the new Steam RE4 version being third.

RE4 Steam version is probably the third best version of the RE4. But there are some minor annoyances if you start nitpicking stuff.

Majority of the issues it had in the release were fixed by series of patches the people who ported it to Steam. And there's support for the Xbox gamepad. But you can use the original textures with the game by flipping a switch at the options screen. And they feature less detail than the old textures. Some of the "new textures" they placed are located only in the beginning areas of the game. If the frame rate drops below the target then you'll experience slow-motion that will cause even some AI issues. You have to meet constant stable 30 FPS or constant stable 60 FPS all the time. While the game is fairly optimized for the target hardware, it isn't that well optimized. If you're walking in thinking that just because this is a "2005 game" and "it will run on any low-end system" then you're wrong. GPU required to run RE4 at 60 FPS mode has to be fairly new or it's a no go. Especially for the CPU no matter what mode you're running the game. Otherwise it's a really solid port.īut I must underline the fact that the hardware requirements for the RE4 are strict. Some of the issues include but are not limited to slow-motion, A/V desync, glitches of various degree, V-Sync, and other stuff.Īnd even if you do meet the hardware requirements then there could be issues with AMD graphics cards. The long answer: The RE4 Steam version is a good port but there can be issues if your system doesn't meet the hardware requirements completely. Was wondering if the Steam PC version is worth getting and whether or not it is a decent port, cause I am hearing a lot of mixed opinions on this.
